ABLIC Inc., a specialized analog semiconductor manufacturer in a group company of MINEBEA MITSUMI Inc., announced that the Company completed the Acquisition of Shares of Samurai Semiconductor Corporation, a semiconductor design company with advanced knowledge and cutting-edge technology, on April 25, 2023.
Based in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, SSC is a group of engineers specializing in semiconductor design with advanced knowledge and cutting-edge engineering skills.
SSC was founded in 2014 by an elite group of people with many years of experience and achievements in management and technology at major Japanese manufacturers.
SSC has highly skilled and experienced engineers in digital and analog, front-end and back-end, which enables them to develop products in a single integrated manner. Also, SSC’s engineers have abundant experience in projects with domestic and global companies. These are SSC’s greatest strong points.
ABLIC has been continuing to develop ultra-miniaturization, low power consumption, and high precision technologies through the development and manufacture of CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) ICs for quartz watches since the company’s foundation, and has provided solutions based on its “small, smart, and simple” products up to now. With devices such as lithium-ion battery protection ICs, automotive power supply ICs, magnetic sensor ICs (Hall effect ICs), and EEPROMs, ABLIC has been playing a role to provide a part of varieties of applications for the areas of automotive devices, medical equipment, and IoT/Wearable devices, and so on.
”ABLIC’s growth strategy for the future is to expand lithium multi-cell related products for automotive and other applications, as well as products for medical equipment. By combining SSC’s advanced engineering and design expertise with ABLIC’s accumulated engineering and development skills and know-how, we will be able to further accelerate and expand this growth strategy and solidify our path to continuous growth.” Nobumasa Ishiai, President and CEO from ABLIC, said.
Ishiai also mentioned the positioning of this acquisition of SSC, “The analog semiconductor business is positioned as one of the MinebeaMitsumi Group’s “8 spears,” the eight focusing business areas, and our growth will also contribute to the development of the MinebeaMitsumi Group, which is necessary and important for achieving the Group’s medium-term target of 100 billion yen in sales for the entire semiconductor business in the fiscal year ending March 2025. This integration is also necessary and important for achieving the Group’s mid-term target of 100 billion yen in sales for the fiscal year 2025.”
ABLIC will strive for the new products being developed through the INTEGRATION activities(*1) by the two companies to differentiate ABLIC from its competitors more and to be delivered to more customers as high value-added products.
