Larg Weiland, a technical fellow at PDF Solutions, has been honored with the quarterly Silicon Integration Initiative Pinnacle Award, which is presented for exceptional contributions to Si2’s success as a leading semiconductor research and development joint venture.
Weiland’s career in semiconductor design and automation spans more than 25 years. He leads all PDF in-house electronic design automation and software development. His impressive portfolio includes over 40 conference, magazine, and book publications, and 95 patents. He holds a Ph.D. from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Weiland’s contributions to Si2 have been instrumental, particularly through his involvement in the OpenAccess Coalition. This coalition is crucial in developing OpenAccess, the world’s most widely used open reference database for semiconductor design.
“Larg has been a long-time supporter of the OpenAccess Coalition,” said Marshall Tiner, Si2 senior director of OpenAccess. “He has been a key contributor in multiple workgroups and instrumental in steering and growing the coalition as a whole. He’s known for his technical leadership and expertise, as well as his ability to explain very complicated subjects throughout the Si2 membership. Members regularly seek his advice when setting a new direction.”
He currently leads a workgroup pushing the limits of the Ruby language to develop a domain-specific language that will allow non-users of OpenAccess to perform simple changes to a design.
The Silicon Integration Initiative, Inc. (Si2) was founded in 1988 as the Common Framework Initiative (CFI). Si2 is a not-for-profit research and development joint venture funded by its member companies.
