Critical Materials Council Celebrates 30 Years

TECHCET celebrates the 30th year anniversary of the Critical Materials Council (CMC).

TECHCET— the electronic materials advisory firm providing business and technology information — celebrates the 30th year anniversary of the Critical Materials Council (CMC).  For 3 decades, the CMC has gathered major chip fabricators from around the world to discuss the changing dynamics and chokepoints of semiconductor materials supply chains. Leveraging peer experiences and market research insight from TECHCET, the Critical Materials Council has addressed supply chain resilience issues amongst global pandemics, geopolitical strife, natural disasters, labor complications, and beyond.

The CMC was a business council built by International SEMATECH in the summer of 1994. This was transferred over to TECHCET in 2016 and integrated as a subscription service with data and interactive sessions. Access to advisory work and resources from TECHCET industry analysts has been a key benefit of CMC member subscribers throughout its existence. Identifying materials-related disruptions, dependencies, and weaknesses within the supply-chain, are all key elements of TECHCET’s focus and benefits to the CMC subscriber fab and supplier members. Simultaneously, the Council also provides insight back to TECHCET to direct their ongoing supply chain analysis work.

Part of this feedback and group collaboration comes from in-person meetings held twice a year. Focuses of these meetings include industry hot topics and challenges, benchmarking surveys, case studies, and more. In April of this year, CMC Fab members discussed the impact of high-purity specifications and supplier negotiation challenges, among other relevant topics. The next CMC in-person meetings will take place this October in Catania, Italy at ST Micro, and will feature discussion around European supply chain dynamics.

Today’s member subscribers includes 14 of the world’s leading semiconductor fabricators (including Analog Devices, Broadcom, Global Foundries, Infineon, Intel, Microchip, Micron, Nexperia, NXP, onsemi, Qorvo, Samsung, ST Micro, and Texas Instruments), and over 50 material suppliers.
