The Global Semiconductor Alliance’s (GSA) Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) received a multi-year grant from Dr. Lisa Su, CEO and President of AMD, to fund unique programs designed to encourage female engineering students to consider a career in the semiconductor industry.
The Dr. Lisa Su Innovating Equity Grant enables GSA WLI to host compelling university events in the US and abroad with robust curricula that includes impactful keynote speakers and panelists, as well as career guidance and networking for students with leading companies in the semiconductor ecosystem.
“Our goal to show women and underrepresented people how this industry positively impacts society, that they can have a fulfilling career with a balanced life, and ultimately be a leader and role model for the next generation of engineers,” said Jodi Shelton, CEO of GSA. “A diverse team is a strong team, and we want our industry to have the strongest, best and brightest professionals. Thanks to Lisa’s grant, we can help make this a reality.”
“This is one of the most exciting times to be in the semiconductor industry, with so many opportunities for talented engineers to help build products that can improve the lives of so many around the world,” said Dr. Su. “Ensuring we have a diverse workforce capable of enabling this is increasingly becoming a challenge. I am honored to have the opportunity to support the GSA WLI through this grant and help encourage collegiate STEM students to join our industry and play an active role building the future.”
GSA WLI was created in 2019 to significantly increase the number of women in leadership roles in the industry, the capital dedicated to women-led start-ups and the number of STEM-focused female candidates joining the industry. To support this expanded initiative, GSA WLI has hired dedicated staff to shepherd university programs and bring them to fruition.
