Semiconductor Quartz Equipment Components Forecast

Geopolitical issues push end users towards local suppliers.

TECHCET is forecasting the semiconductor quartz fabricated parts market to rebound by almost 6% in 2024, reaching approximately $US 2.12 billion. Increasing demand for quartz components is driven by fab expansions alongside increases in etch and CVD steps for advanced tech nodes, especially true for advanced logic, 3DNAND, and other advanced memories. Looking forward, the 5-year CAGR is estimated around 7%, according to TECHCET’s newly released Quartz Equipment Components Critical Materials Reportô.

Geopolitical issues such as the invasion of Ukraine, US-China trade tariffs, and the Houthi attacks present potential risks for quartz trade. These factors have increased customer drive toward localization, including for quartz components.  For example, quartz suppliers within China are seeing additional growth as end users turn to local suppliers. Growth in China is further enabled by the availability of funding from private and government sources. Another contributing factor to China localization is the US import tariff up to 25% for fabricated parts imported from China.

In recent years, the quartz material industry has made significant effort to improve material technology in order to achieve required quality parameters for advanced technology nodes. Advanced technology nodes have heightened demand for higher purity and validation of CoA impurity, as well as mechanical properties, tolerances, and repeatability. These additional quality requirements have and will continue to push suppliers, which could limit new ones from entering the space.
